THE GATEWAY PROGRAM
The Monroe Institute of Applied Sciences
INTRODUCTION
The Gateway Program is a training system designed to bring enhanced strength, focus and coherence to the amplitude and frequency of brainwave output between the left and right hemispheres so as to alter consciousness, moving it outside the physical sphere so as to ultimately escape even the restrictions of time and space.
The participant then gains access to the various levels of intuitive knowledge which the universe offers.
HEMI-SYNC TECHNOLOGY
The Gateway approach to self-induced consciousness relies on the use of "Hemi-Sync," a technique developed by Robert Monroe which uses audio patterns to create a "frequency following response" (FFR) in the human brain.
When the brain is presented with two slightly different frequencies in each ear, it perceives a third "beat" frequency—the mathematical difference between the two. This beat frequency entrains brainwaves to match it.
Left ear: 200 Hz
Right ear: 204 Hz
Perceived beat: 4 Hz (Theta range)
THE FREQUENCY FOLLOWING RESPONSE
The Frequency Following Response (FFR) phenomenon was first identified and studied by biophysicist Gerald Oster at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City in 1973.
Oster found that binaural beats could be used to entrain brain waves, potentially producing altered states of consciousness. The Monroe Institute refined this discovery into a practical training methodology.
FOCUS LEVELS
The Gateway Experience uses a series of progressive "Focus" levels:
- Focus 10: "Mind Awake/Body Asleep" — The body is deeply relaxed while the mind remains alert and focused.
- Focus 12: "Expanded Awareness" — Consciousness expands beyond the physical body.
- Focus 15: "No Time" — The dimension where time does not exist.
- Focus 21: "Other Energy Systems" — The bridge to contact with other dimensions.
APPLICATIONS
Participants in the Gateway Program have reported using these techniques for:
- Deep relaxation and stress reduction
- Enhanced creativity and problem-solving
- Accelerated learning
- Remote viewing
- Out-of-body experiences
- Self-healing
- Contact with higher states of consciousness
THE MONROE INSTITUTE
The Monroe Institute was founded by Robert A. Monroe, a Virginia businessman who began experiencing spontaneous out-of-body experiences in 1958. Rather than dismissing these experiences, Monroe approached them scientifically, eventually developing the Hemi-Sync technology and founding the Institute in 1974.
The Institute has trained thousands of participants and collaborated with numerous scientific and governmental organizations in researching expanded states of consciousness.
